What’s your message to your community?
My messages to my community are usually reflected in my murals: ‘You are radiant!’ ‘Love yourself!’ ‘You are possible!’… If I could mural a message tomorrow, in light of all the 2020 shenanigans, it might sound something like: ‘You are Resilient!’
How can the community best support you?
You could always hire me.
What has been your creative escape during COVID?
My creative escape lately has basically been things that you’d see a 10 year old do. I’ve been going back to my inner kid lately, which has been comforting.. this week’s agenda consisted of: snorkeling (I saw a sea turtle!), learning about ice science (yes, frozen water), reading children’s books illustrated by Christian Robinson, and making dirt cups for a small picnic in Balboa Park.
What has COVID taught you about connection?
This year, connection has meant upping my technology literacy game and studying nature. I’m learning that connection is sometimes uncomfortable and ever-evolving.
What place in your neighborhood are you excited to get back to? Why?
I’m excited to head back to the small buiz coffee shops around town. I really miss the physical, community energy that spaces like OB Beans, Dark Horse, Holsem, Hawthorn, Cafe Virtuoso, and Young Hickory create. Coffee to-go without a sketchbook in hand or a friend to meet is just not the same.
If you were to write a book about 2020 so far, what would the title be?
What’s Left? A 2020 Memoir
