Natalie Gill,
Founder and president of Native Poppy
Meet the founder and creator of one of San Diego’s favorite neighborhood flower shops. She is spreading joy and making beautiful flowers, for whatever the occasion.
What’s your message to your community?
That flowers make people happy and should be seen as an essential component in our daily wellbeing.
How can the community best support you?
Send flowers, receive flowers and then leave us a review online.
What has been your creative escape during COVID?
During the beginning of the shut down I was just working out of my garage (I have a full floral studio at my house where we produce our events out of). I set up a tv and was watching all my favorite movies and rewatching my favorite tv shows while making all our shop orders for our daily deliveries. It was honestly a happy time in my life- I’m pretty introverted and loved the solo creative time with my flowers and old fictional friends.
What has COVID taught you about connection?
I don’t need it! Kidding! I have realized that I need to disconnect more often as well as the value of my truest friendships.
What place in your neighborhood are you excited to get back to? Why?
False Idol tiki bar. I wanna breath in that humid waterfall air and rub elbows with strangers, feel the rumble of the room when someone orders a punch bowl and drink perfectly crafted cocktails.
If you were to write a book about 2020 so far, what would the title be?
Grab life by the thorns.
