Eris Hanson is Fighting Health Misinformation One Scroll at a Time

Growing up in rural Idaho, Eris Hanson learned early that healthcare could feel distant, confusing, and often out of reach. That childhood experience planted a question that would follow her for decades: Why is it so hard to get real answers about our own health?
After nearly a decade building healthcare products across insurance, digital health startups, and global fertility benefits, Hanson thought she'd have the system figured out. But even with industry experience, her own chronic conditions were still being overlooked by doctors. Frustrated, she turned to social media for answers—only to find glimpses of truth buried under a mess of misinformation and product pushing.
That frustration became fuel.
Today, Hanson is the founder of GenWell, a platform that's tackling one of healthcare's most insidious problems: the flood of medical misinformation that's easier to find than actual help. GenWell makes credible health education as accessible as scrolling TikTok, but with content created by real health professionals instead of influencers chasing views.
Changing the Rules of Engagement
The challenge isn't just creating good content—it's competing with misinformation that's often more engaging than the truth. Hanson's approach? Meet people where they are, but change the rules of the game.
"GenWell is designed like a social app, but it's 100% dedicated to unlocking that mystery answer, the lightbulb moment," she explains. "No algorithms boosting whoever shouts the loudest. No 'magic cure all' advice. Just the same scrollable, engaging experience—with better information and better health outcomes behind it."
It's a philosophy that extends to how users interact with the platform. "If we get you to the health content you need faster, and then off the app to go live your life, we've done our job," Hanson says—a refreshing departure from the attention-grabbing tactics that dominate social media.
Arming Women for Battle
Beyond fighting misinformation, GenWell is addressing a deeper issue: the systemic dismissal of women's health concerns. Hanson believes the solution isn't just fixing the healthcare system—it's empowering women to navigate it more effectively.
"When women walk into appointments armed with language, data, and clarity, the dynamic shifts," she explains. "Suddenly, you're not just describing symptoms, you're translating them in clinical terms that resonate with your doctor."
Hanson envisions a future where women can pull up expert-curated videos mid-appointment, featuring respected health professionals explaining exactly what they're experiencing. "That's not just empowering, it accelerates time to diagnosis," she notes, speaking from personal experience.
The goal isn't to replace doctors, but to level the playing field. "Education alone won't fix a broken system, but it gives women the leverage to push back, ask better questions, and take control of their care."
Building Generational Wealth—of Knowledge
Perhaps most ambitiously, Hanson is thinking beyond individual empowerment to generational change. The name GenWell reflects this dual mission: "Generation Well"—becoming the well generation—and "Generational Wellth," because true health knowledge should be something we can pass down.
"Most women don't know the basics of their own health," Hanson admits. "Not because we're uninformed, but because we were never properly taught. We didn't learn it in school, from doctors, and even well-meaning family members didn't have the knowledge to pass down."
It's a sobering reality that drives her long-term vision. "Right now, we're breaking cycles. But imagine if the next generation of girls grew up understanding their bodies, trusting themselves, and knowing where to turn. That's the kind of long-game we're playing."
For brands operating in women's health, Hanson sees an opportunity—and a responsibility—that goes beyond traditional marketing. "It means moving beyond awareness campaigns and toward actual education."
A two-time Ironman triathlete with a bias for execution, Hanson is building the platform she wishes she had—one designed to equip this generation, and the next, with the knowledge they deserve.
